Thalassotherapy and Iodine - discussing conditions like: Thyroidism, Fibrocytic Breast Disease, Endometriosis, Ovarian Cysts, Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Eczema, Psoriasis, Cancer and more! Thalassotherapy is defined as the layering of ocean components onto the body; utilizing whole seaweeds, seasalt & ocean water over the body; allowing the absorption of important vitamins and minerals in a bio-available chelated form, for the purpose of achieving mind, body balancing.

Iodine is required for breast health
Since the Chernobyl nuclear accident in the late 1980's, Lugols Solution has been known and distributed in Poland by health officials to protect the population from radiation exposure. In Poland, the use of Lugols Solution is now very much common knowledge by Poles in the use and protection from radioactive iodine, which is commonly found in the atmosphere following such nuclear accidents. The body will absorb the radioactive iodine (I 131) into the thyroid gland, unless it is sufficiently protected with the stable form of iodine known as I 127. We can look to the Japanese to see how their population survived 2 nuclear bombs that ended WWII and haven't all succumbed to over exposure to radiation or thyroid cancer since that time. Since the Japanese diet utilizes many types of seaweed and especially brown kelp, high in healthy iodine, this is absorbed into the thyroid and many other organs in the body for it's immune strength and protection during such times. Iodine is now known to be stored in not only the thyroid gland, but also in the brain, eyes, breasts, ovaries, prostate, skin and our muscles. When the body is sufficient in iodine, it will not uptake radioactive iodine and hence works to protect our cells and body from exposure to radiation. That is why during time of radioactive fallout or nuclear disaster, the population is given iodine tablets, usually 60mg-120mg to protect the thyroid from absorbing the radioactive iodine that may be present in the atmosphere. Here in Canada, where we have some of the best kelp in the world due to our cold waters, sea vegetables are not a regular part of most Canadians or Americans diets. And since our exposure to other halogens, (yes iodine is also a halogen) Fluoride, Bromine and Chlorine work to release the healing iodine from our cells and block it's re-entry, we find many with weakened immune systems that manifest as chronic disease including cancer. The Japanese have one of the lowest rates of breast cancer in the world with one of the highest rates of seaweed consumption, so even though much of the population smokes cigarettes and consumes alcohol the seaweed keeps them healthy. Since kelp contains, not only iodine, but many healing compounds that allow the body to safely detoxify from heavy metals and radiation that may get stored in our soft tissues from exposure. Iodine being stored in the breast for it's optimal health and breast integrity. Here in Canada, it was Dr. William Ghent, chief surgeon at Kingston General Hospital during the 1970's, 80's and 90's whose clinical studies with over 3000 women dealing with Fibrocystic Breast Disease (FBD) utilized Lugols Solution in oral and transdermal supplementation to dissolve cystic condition in the breast. With the success of his clinical studies being published in leading medical journals of the time, it was Dr. Guy Abraham in the US, who in 1998 read these studies and was amazed that not every clinical practioner was utilizing this protocol, since the treatment for FBD was and still currently is surgery. Since reading those studies and realizing that physicians training in the use of iodine in medical practice has been altered or removed all together since the 1940's, Dr. Abraham has formed, 'The Iodine Group of Physicians' to train other doctors in the long and varied use of iodine in medical practice. At one time, known to physicians as the Universal Medicine, iodine was used as a panacea, a cure all, to treat conditions from depression and infectious disease to thyroidism & obesity or slow metabolism.
