You Are What You Eat

‘You are what you eat’ is an old axiom that still holds true today. One has only to visit a fast food restaurant to see how many people utilize the easy and wide access to a fast, low nutrient dense food diet that is available in a convenient way at a convenient price. Business doesn’t seem to be hurting. What most who frequent fast food restaurants fail to bring into their health equation, is how their body is going to recover from the visit to a processed food supply and how their body is going to fulfill it’s need to replenish & nourish itself with vitamins & minerals not found in processed foods to the levels required to sustain life.
As Hippocrates once said; ‘Make your food your medicine’
We, as a society are indeed feeling the ill-effects of our ‘fast food diet’ that readily shows in the everyday health and well-being or lack of well being for a majority of our population. Those dealing with auto-immune conditions, such as; arthritis, psoriasis, eczema, fibromyalgia & thyroidism to name a few, that can be directly linked to the lack of minerals & vitamins currently available in our modern fast food diets. With high concentrations of healing polysaccharides & polygalactosides, along with high concentrations of chelated vitamins & minerals, seaweed has the variety to supply the body with ALL that is needed nutritionally to survive & thrive at optimal levels. Seaweeds, in general, supply us with all of the omega oils; omega 3, 6 & 9, all of our essential amino acids including; Alanine, Arginine, Asparagine, Glutamine, Glutathione, Glycine, Histidine, Lycine and Proline plus a host of others, 10 to 40% protein (dependant on the type of seaweed) with a spectrum of over 60 trace minerals & a host of vitamins that are in concentrations 10 – 40 times that of vegetables & plants grown on land. We can survive on eating seaweed and nothing else and be the healthiest people on the planet. We just need to look to Eastern cultures of Japan, Korea & China to see how this played out in the health of their nations.
Japanese people eat approximately 4-6g of seaweed daily and have the lowest rate of breast cancer in the world. That says a lot, since iodine is stored for health in the breasts, the ovaries, brain, thyroid gland and the prostate gland in men. In fact cystic conditions of the breast & ovaries have showed great response to Lugol’s Solution or iodine therapy. Cystic conditions begin to occur in the body after there is depletion in iodine. Painful, fibrocystic breast disease occurs in a large portion of the female population here in North America, this condition is reversed by supplying the body with enough iodine for the breasts. Since 1928, the iodine concentration required in the ovaries for sufficiency, has been known to be higher than in every other organ except the thyroid and the breast. Dr. Brownstein has found in his research that with high doses of iodine, cysts on the ovaries became smaller and start to disappear. He also found that the libido in women and men increased. This has also been the experience with fibrocystic breast tissue and breast cancer and iodine therapy. It takes 20 to 40 times the amount of Iodine needed to control breast cancer and fibrocystic breast disease than it does to prevent goiter.
"Breast, ovarian, and skin cysts — In addition to fixing almost all cases of breast cysts, iodine also has a remarkable healing effect on ovarian cysts,” Dr. Robert Rowen

Thalassotherapy OR Ocean-therapy; traditional healing therapy

For thousands of years, the ocean has been recognized for it’s healing properties and utilized by cultures situated near the ocean. The father of modern medicine, Hippocrates, would send his patients to the ocean to soak and walk, absorbing it’s healing nutrients transdermally through our largest organ, our skin and breathing the healing iodine as it’s carried along in the air molecules into our lungs. What a thalassotherapy experience does, is to increase the wellbeing in a person, by allowing the body to be nourished in a cosmic womb of ocean ingredients that promotes healthy development of healthy cells; all the while calming our bodies and moving into a balanced state of homeostasis that is known as mind/body balancing. You experience as sense of calm as your nervous system, respiratory system and cardiovascular system flow with a primordial beat that is echoed by the sense of well being experienced in your mind.
In the mid 1860's in France, the word Thalassotherapy was coined & became a very popularized practice by 'Taking to the Waters', which was experienced by members of many royal families, along with the rich & famous of that era, as they would flock to the ocean to heal. The word thalasso, derived from the Greek, 'ocean-goddess', promotes a healthy balance of ocean healing.

Thalassotherapy has been and continues to be an effective natural therapy from the ocean that balances the chemistry of our 'internal oceans'. It has been over 150 years since Dr. Rene Quinton published his monumental work "Sea Water, organic medium", where he established scientifically the direct relationship and chemical resemblance between ocean water and our own blood plasma. Dr.Quinton opened many clinics in France during his life & treated cholera very successfully in over 25,000 infants & children in Egypt & N.Africa in the early part of the 20th century, all with his special ocean water.

Lugol's Solution - 'The Universal Medicine' since 1829

The history of iodine and the medical community dates back to the early 1800's. When it was first discovered in 1811 by Bernard Courtois, a French Chemist working for Napoleon while making gunpowder. Since on embargoes on France by England at that time prevented the shipment of saltpeter(potassium nitrate), which was utilized in the making of gunpowder, the French began to collect seaweed from their shores which is a great source of potassium and sodium salts. It took only 8 years for the medical community to begin to utilize the newly classified, naturally occurring element. It was a Swiss physician, J.F. Coindet who hypothesized that the active ingredient in sea sponge, that he was currently using to treat hyperthyroidism(goiter), was in fact iodine. In 1820, Coindet published the outstanding results he achieved with his hyperthyroid patients while using 250mg doses of iodine, very large by today's standards.
Physicians today would be surprised to learn that their predecessors described iodine as the 'Universal Medicine' and was used to treat conditions from asthma, paralysis, bronchitis and croup to staphylococcus infection. In fact it was utilized for every case that resisted routine practice. Nobel Laureate Albert Szent Györgyi, the Hungarian physician who discovered Vitamin C in 1928 commented saying, “When I was a medical student, iodine in the form of KI was the universal medicine. Nobody knew what it did, but it did something and did something good. We students used to sum up the situation in this little rhyme:
If ye don’t know where, what, and why Prescribe ye then K and I.
Potassium Iodide in the form of Lugol's solution, Dr. Lugol was another French physician who combined potassium iodide, elemental iodine in an aqueous solution.

The brown kelps are the best source iodine and the best tasting. They are very mild to taste and it's what the Asian cultures in Japan & Korea use in food preparations. What's also interesting to note is Japan has the lowest rate of breast cancer in the world. Could this be because they ingest enough seaweed to get between 12.5mg to 50 mg of iodine daily. The RDA for iodine is 150 micrograms, over 100 times less than what is regularly consumed in Japan daily. There are numerous scientific studies showing how iodine & seaweed induce natural cell death, called apoptosis, in cancer cells. Visit www.breastcancerchoices.org to learn more.

Thalassotherapy - Natures Healing Gift

Thalassotherapy, which is ocean therapy has been utilized by cultures for over 5000. If you use raw seaweed that is certified organic and food grade you can't go wrong. Iodine, found in brown kelps, was classified as the first essential mineral required for life, as it is utilized in every cell and stored in our bodies for health. We know that Japan has the lowest rate of breast cancer in the world, this is because the population there eats large amounts of seaweed, especially Kombu or Alaria and the breast's are a large storage house for iodine. In fact, Fibrocystic Breast Disease (FBD), painful breasts during or after menstruation is caused by a lack of iodine in breast. Seaweed and Iodine have been shown to induce apoptosis (natural cell death) to cancer cell in over 750 scientific studies done in the US, Canada, Asia & Europe over the last 40 years. So you're able to absorb the vitamins & minerals transdermally that are naturally chelated (readily absorbed) with concentrations of 20-50 times that of land growing vegetables or plants. 20X more iron in brown kelp than in organic spinach, all bio-available and ready to use.

Chlorine, Fluorine and Bromine(used as a water disinfectant) and their isotopes compete for storage in the body with healing iodine and flush out the iodine that is stored in our brain, thyroid gland, women's breasts & ovaries as well as the prostate gland in men, for our immune strength. When the iodine is depleted either from halogen replacement or during pregnancy and is not replaced, disease creeps into the body and especially auto-immune disorders such as arthritis, eczema, psoriasis, fibromyalgia thyroidism, cancer & more. This causes havoc with the endocrine system which supports our metabolism & hormone production. Iodine, is the first essential mineral classified as essential for life and was used in medical practice from the early 1800's through the 1950's to treat thyroidism (both hyper & hypo) as well as staff infections & asthma. In fact Doctors learned a little rhyme in medical school ' If ye don't know what, when or why, prescribe then K and I. Which is potassium iodide. You can visit www.drbrownstein.com for more information. Dr. Brownstein has written a great book called 'Iodine, why you need it, why you can't live without it.' As well, a thalassotherapy soak is a wonderful way to enjoy your bath while absorbing the healing nutrients of the ocean found in seaweed in high concentrations. I have friends who have reversed arthritis, eczema, psoriasis and even anemia within 3 months of regular seaweed baths.
